This is my first blog!

1. Please introduce yourself.

My name here is Anbi, it's actually quite different from my other online names/personas. I am currently a computer science in university, I have a lot of love for the internet and compsci in general.

2. How long have you been making websites?

I created this site on the 7th of January, 2025. Before that I think it was one attempt at carrd that I didn't like and tumblr themes.

3. And what got you into the hobby?

I honestly can't remember the reason I started, but I do believe it was because I started with tumblr theme making that I learned soooome itsy bitsy bit of how html works.

I also use a few different theme engine(?) like the web extension Stylus, Vencord (which has custom css options), and steambrew / millenium (which also has css themes). I think they have all taught me quite a bit about css.

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

I absolutely adore maximalist sites that feels very very personal. I try not to doxx myself and share too much physical information, but I really enjoyed putting my inner world on here.

I also just as much enjoyed other sites that shares their strong opinions about things that they love or hate. I like it the most when sites are very clearly expression of its author

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

I first think about the purpose of the page, like this blog, the shrine, or the genshin page. Then comes the most important step, the background image, I take quite a while to figure out the looks of the page. Often time I will scroll through a bunch of other sites and think about what I liked with theirs. Then I get distracted and spend half the day on that haha

My design process is very very "go with the flow" type of deal. I search for materials and based on what I like, they go into the site. As opposed to the opposite lol.

Most importantly, I like to make each page feel soft and dreamy, it makes me happy.

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

Kuroi OS might be the biggest inspiration I have for this website, I was head over heels for the computer desktop look and spent a very long time trying to replicate it for the first iteration of the site, I can't show you that though, it's very embarrassing.

Skye Journey 's site wasn't actually something I conciously followed, actually I didn't even know of this site until the majority of my home page finished. I was FLOORED to see the beautiful starry elements of their site. It was something I had been aiming for in my own site but Skye did it beautifully here, I aim to create something so gorgeous one day!

Cloverbell is a wonderfully lovely and cozy site, it's extremely cute and I'm sure is an inspiration to a lot of people in the cute girly site space. Bonus, Lune (the webmistress of Cloverbell) is also Viet! I was very excited upon learning this.

Lunabelle has a wonderfully cute and frilly look. I adored how sweet and lovely it was and hoped to make something just as nice. All hail kawaii.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

The part where I get to talk 😼

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

I feel like I spend too much time doing the css and not enough of writing and making actual substance into the page, it kind of worries me a little and I gotta remind myself it's a hobby I'm not a content factory!

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

I looove experimenting with layouts, though rn I feel like I keep making very similar looking ones, they just look good!!! Also, these column layouts are much easier to make readable on mobile (which I sometimes) view my site on

10. How confident are you with CSS?

On a scale of 1 to 10 in terms of knowledge, I would put myself at a 4, I think I know quite a bit compared to the average person, but not as much as the average site enthusiast.

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

I had to look them up before doing this, so I don't think so . ..

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

It's for sure details and summary, I love opening and closing things, along with sqvrltastic 's guide to animating the detail element, it's fire 🔥🔥🔥

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

I started my site over once already, I think the main thing I did and will probably do again is to find or make a really good solid base that is easy to use and isn't taped together with crappy code

14. Do you know JavaScript?

Javascript might be the coding language I'm most familiar with (not counting css or html), since I learned it in high school and used the very similar Java in college.

15. How about PHP?

I've seen, but never interacted :(

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

I think the easiest answer for sure is stars, bows, and lace, I also like to use blur a lot.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?

Heavily guilty of design over substance, but hopefully this is my journey to making more stuff hehe; and I suppose because of that, I kind of made the design itself the content. That's not so bad to me

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?

I do not, I looked at a bunch and decided they were too expensive to have for long term use. I would love to have a .cloud domain thoughh

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

Lame, I'm not one for retro aesthetics, I mean the earliest windows I can even remember using is Windows 7. I doubt people my age really remembers all the retro they're making. This is kind of a thing against retroism and y2k revival in general. Just not for me I'm afraid.

I do much prefer more modern looks of tech and UI (except for macOS 💢), I like the clean and glossy look that modern UIs tend to feature. All the hate in the world for apple UI, but liquid glass is a SLAY.

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

She is not, I just checked right now lol

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

I love them, they're really cute and I think having a really small area forces people to be creative and really consider the important bits that would go into showcasing their site in such a small area. Similar to webtiles I think

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?

Love them even more, most of the time I spend online now are hopping through websites from different people's button walls. It really makes the web feels like a community I think

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

Right now, I only have this in my brain, if I ever answer this again in the future, maybe I will answer differently. I love what I've made and want to continue making something similar.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

Sometimes, but also I like what I've made because it is catered exactly to me. There are probably other aesthetics and heavily decorated sites I've seen that's so incredibly cool, but do they have Piano on it? I think not!!

25. What text editor do you use?

Visual Studio Code for site stuff, Ellipsus as a Google docs alternative for writing and sharing stuff; I heavily dislike the in browser editors chattes PLEASE don't just edit your website in the browser I am BEGGING.

26. Why do you use that one?

I started using VS Code to work with my tumblr theme and discord css files, it also works for my python programs pretty decently. I also learned git recently and it incorporates extremely well. Also the themes are pretty good.

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

I think there are some that I host on catbox, the rest are on neocities. Though I should really take them off catbox and make sure they're safe and well on my own website.

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

Dumb, even the fact that people in the communities entertain it at all feels kind of stupid. Like do we need to swear our alligence to webhosts?

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

300mb?

I checked, it was 60mb lol, I keep being worried I'm doing too much and then I check and it's like I used up 0.1 of my max storage

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

Seriously why wouldn't you 🥹

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

I'm guilty of decor overload on every site, in fact so far I'm not satisfied with how decorated this blog is.

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

My favorite color is pink, but my site design ended up being Light Ultramarine Blue colored. Extra fun fact, this was my favorite color as a preteen!

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

No, the website isn't going to run away. I may spend months without working on it, but it's not like quitting. I'm not going to quit eating pizza or something like that.

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

I have a few friends that are webmasters, but I did meet most irl or on different internet spaces. I hope to make lots of good friends here though :)

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

Some do, I tell my friends about it, though I'm not sure if all goes here; I've shown my mom the front page also but not in depth and without showing the url. I kinda like that not as many irls know this space, makes it easier for me to express my feelings. So you either have to know me really really well or don't know me at all.

36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?

All my hobbies come and go very intensely, I have periods of spending 12 hours on a game for a few weeks then don't touch it again for months. It's something very similar to this site, right now I've been updating it multiple times a day.

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

I'm very happy with the overall theme and looks of the site, and the aesthetics I'm going for. I don't think I would change the look too drastically, in any case I would just make another subfolder for a new section of the site.

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?

It's all about meeeee

39. Do you do web design professionally?

I'm honestly kind of hoping to after I graduate. Doing this all day would be kind of a dream.

40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?

I'm a compsci student, but aside from that, being kawaii is my day job

41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?

I have all of my emails extremely cluttered by random college and student loan ads, I'm afraid I would very easily lose track of anyone I'm talking to.

42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?

Shamefully so. Despite that, I noticed that I spend much more time going through other sites or decorating mine compared to on other sns.

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

I love Discord, I think it's genuienly the best messaging app out there when it comes to features. The search is fantastic, replying and forwarding is amazing, message editing, gifs, customization, I could go ooon.

I do have a lot of gripes with Discord of course, but I really enjoy it and Discord is my main day to day messaging app.

44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?

God I could spend a whole blog post talking about my music listening habits; to save time for me and my poor fingers, I've been listening to a lot of Kendrick's Mr. Morale, and random classical bangers like Ave Maria.

45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?

I have everything on one website, though I kind of have a mirror on nekoweb and is really debating moving back there again.

46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?

I have a lot of interests, so naturally the sites ended up housing many topics like Genshin, Piano, and oreos

47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?

I present the self that likes to talk a lot

48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?

I think I have, we didn't meet on the indie web but have really bonded over the indie web

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?

I'm pretty unimaginative, it does what I want it to, I think that's good enough for me

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?

autoplaying music

Disabling right click, it's annoying and totally against the spirit of the Indie Web

Not crediting things that were used, I don't feel as strongly about this because yeah it's kind of a bit of work I can't blame people; but really it would be so nice

51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?

Marquees, they're so cute and I really enjoy moving elements on a website

Sound effects that aren't too too obstrusive are also really great. I personally edit the volume of mine via Audacity

Custom cursors are mega cute, I really enjoy how they give you a sense of immersion when going into another website

52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?

I've been trying to more often, this page uses more semantic tags compared to slightly older pages and I do prefer it a lot more

53. Do you consider different browsers?

I use Firefox on my laptop so I sometimes try to make sure certain things work there

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.

I used to use firefox because it was just solidly good; but one day I got annoyed and decided to move to Vivaldi. It has an extensive amount of customization for the browser and that's always what I'm looking for

55. And what OS are you on?

CachyOS, I am extremely guilty of distro hopping. I started using Windows and got pissed off of a few things, and at that point I was somewhat familiar with comand lines anyways.

So I moved to linux mint. It was find, just the ui and customization wasn't where I liked, so I (somehow) started running kde on mint, don't even ask I don't remember how I got there. Then I moved to kubuntu because mint is ubuntu based and I way prefer KDE Plasma. It was probably quite silly of me then to use Kubuntu and not just Fedora, so I moved again.

Finallyyy, I moved to cachyos because I heard it was faster for gaming and I got frustrated that some errors I had needed to wait to be updated. The end!!

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

Despite all that, I think it just works for me and that's good enough. I do think it would be nice if more people switch to / consider linux though

57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?

It's more like mobile readable. I sometimes check out my own websites on my phone (mr narcissus over here) and I make it work good enough for there

58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?

no matter the music, it always startles me

59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?

I wish less of them were deadlinks or broken chains, I like them a lot though. I'm in a few and is applying for a couple more but we'll see

60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?

I have two dedicated shrines, I think I should be putting more into them. I really enjoy seeing people put all their love into explaining why something is so important to them. I think it makes me appreciate the media even more.

61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?

A little, social media complainy, way too much decor, cursor trail, music, it's got all the hits.

62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or for something else?

Something both really cute and dreamy. I mentioned earlier but Sky Journey's site is really what I want to strive for.

63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?

I am!! I drew the moon ruffles on the home page and my site button

64. What are your favourite resource sites?

• Most others are on tumblr

65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?

66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?

please first edit your code from your computer on a code editor like vs code or whatever instead of editing in browser and leaving everything on neocities . . .

67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?

I try to avoid it cause vs code screams at me about it lol. I do have some instances of being very lazy though

68. What do you think of frameset layouts?

i was born yesterday and they don't teach me that in kindergarten 👶

69. How about table-based layouts?

Maybe a bit too restrictive for the kind of stuff I like doing

70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

I don't think any are superior than others, it really depends on how the rest of the site looks, I think I love them all. Personally I think I keep end up making three columns, I think they just display the most amount of information

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

CSS and it's not even a competition

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

Nope, it's not really something I'm interested in

73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?

I make layouts to house things I wanna put on here, so I think the need comes before the design

74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?

Refer to the scale of 1 - 10, it's about a 4. I have a big advantage with javascript though maybe?

75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?

It's not really a habit, more like when I want to find out how something is made. Or out of spite for sites that disable right click, grr

76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?

I started backwards with css before html, I'm still learning a lot via petrapixel's guides on everything, god she's amazing

77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?

For a while, I was using the <button> tag as literal buttons, apparently they're only for forms, that was aggregious and embarrassing . . .

78. Thoughts on floating elements?

Despite how good this website looks superficially, I did not know how float works, oh my god this is life changing

79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?

I usually use %, and then px and most fonts are em

80. Do you have a favourite font?

Comfortaa~ It's on this blog. I looove cute sans-serif monospace fonts, I think it's sleek but also kinda bubbly and round and very cute

81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?

Nope, an irl friend once joked that I was like a dictator, and it's true I'm very particular about things I like. I think friendships would be ruined if I had to run something with someone else . . .

82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?

Every day lately, it's fun

83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?

I do only if they don't have a button, I link their button on my site if possible.

I'd be a little flustered, but really really grateful !!

84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?

There are so many thingss I can't pick one, I think the colors and technical aspects are the biggest things I worked on. Maybe it's the colors I had a bigger contribution on so that one

85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?

Very very, I love tech, unfortunately I am a lowly college student atm and can't collect that kind of thing as much as I'd like. Amongst my prized possessions are my wacom tablet and dvd player though.

86. How often and for how long are you online?

From the moment I wake up to the moment I close my eyes. I love the internet

87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?

88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?

Had to google that for this question so I think the answer is no :c

89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?

I believe I made a javascript program to help me tally ranked choice votes once, but it didn't work out and I got frustrated. Aside from that I also made snake for a final project once, it was pretty bad cause I was focusing much more on another class that semester (calc 3 😨). Something I really liked also was this particle simulator I made for a project. It was really fun to mess with and made me look very cool in front of my friends.

90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?

They were hard to figure out at first, I ran into a few problems that I struggled with, but atm I'm using the very basics of eleventy and it's AWESOME

91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?

Numbers stresses me out, instagram likes for example really get to me. I don't really want to do that atm.

92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?

93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?

Depends on my mood, blogs are easier to write in ellipsus but I do get lazy most of the times. I'm answering these in the editor too

94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?

Yes, and yes. I'm actually quite an over the top person irl when it comes to fashion, I get a lot of compliments hehe. It also makes me happy to see other people in cool clothing too

95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?

Extremely, but I've never truly deleted anything, I'm kind of a hoarder both online and irl, I need an archive of everything.

96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?

Why would I ever close it down? Just a hobby after all, I can always leave and come back another day

97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?

Emotionally yes, physically no

98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?

Not telling

99. And do you optimise the images on your website?

I convert some to webp and resize others to be smaller, I'm sure there are much better ways to go about it though
